I attended and presented my research at the BSA (British Sociological Association) Annual Conference 2026, held at the University of Manchester, UK, from April 8th to 10th, 2026.
My presentation focused on the “care burden” of family carers raising “independently mobile technology-dependent children” in Japan, sharing an analysis aimed at constructing a new conceptual framework.
- Title: Towards a Dynamic Framework of Care Burden: An Analysis of Family Carers Raising Independently Mobile Technology-Dependent Children in Japan
In this report, I proposed a novel conceptual model that captures care burden through two lenses: quantifiable elements and non-quantifiable (or difficult-to-quantify) elements. The presentation sparked engaging discussions, with many researchers offering specific suggestions and questions on how to integrate and evaluate these two distinct dimensions. Furthermore, the session provided a valuable opportunity to reaffirm the universal nature of care burden structures across different cultures and countries, highlighting the potential applicability of this model in a global context.
